What can we learn from the photographs we make? The film, Ways of Seeing, explores this question through the story of a groundbreaking visual seminar introduced at Duke University in 1974 by photographer Alex Harris and later taught by photographers Margaret Sartor and Bill Bamberger through Duke Center for Documentary Studies (CDS).
In this film, five former students look again at their photographs from the seminar and reflect on the impact of the course on their lives. The ideas behind this seminar led to the founding of CDS, which continues to evolve and explore documentary as a way to engage with the world and to understand our lives and history.
